Kia’palano is an educational centre dedicated to highlighting the rich culture of the First Nations people and their connection to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park.
Many of the story poles (commonlly called totem poles) in the Park were designed and carved by notable Indigenous carvers Wayne Carlick and James Lewis of the Tlingit/Taltan Nation.
Just before the turn of the millennium, we invited guests to sign a wish book, which was placed into a bentwood box and embedded inside our Millennium pole, raised on June 21, 2000.
Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is situated upon the unceded traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Nation and Tsleil-Waututh Nation. Part of Capilano’s connection to their story involves the tradition of placing totem (story) poles on the grounds at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park.
